The Painter

Adora Bax is a Missouri-based artist. An oil painter

Adora’s curiosity for art began early in her life. Raised in Lake Ozark, Missouri she fondly recalls sitting beside her grandfather in his home studio asking questions and observing the magic of painting firsthand.

In the following years two pivotal moments in the artist’s childhood would solidify a consistent desire to become a painter. First, her grandfather took her on a trip to Kansas City Missouri to visit The Nelson Atkins Museum of Fine Art. While there she encountered Caravaggio’s Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness among other important Italian paintings including those by Titian, Bronzino and Bugiardini. The second moment of significance came when a dear family friend, who lived next door to Adora’s childhood home, gifted her a full set of professional oil paints. This was no inconsequential gesture, as oil paints are costly and hard to come by when you’re 12 years of age. From there she would inherit an extra room in her family home for the sole purpose of curating a studio and painting.

Adora then began her formal training as an oil painter in the fall of 2014. As destiny would have it, at the same private art institution that her grandfather attended in his early years. The campus being directly across the street from The Nelson Atkins Museum of Fine Art. She made the decision to make painting the main focus of her studies with an underlying interest in art history. In the spring of 2016 she was accepted into an international art program and spent the summer studying painting and 35mm film photography at SACI in Florence Italy. The precocious nineteen-year-old American art student immersed herself in the city’s vibrant cultural life and spent as much time as she could studying the masters in the museums. The special quality of Mediterranean light captured her heart and would leave a lasting impression on her for many years to come.

In the decade proceeding her academic studies she has continued to build a strong oil painting studio practice. Although she ended her formal academic training, she never stopped the pursuit of personal skill and consciousness. She has continued to gain familiarity with tools and materials, apprehension of brush techniques, and knowledge of color theory.

The Artist Speaks

In the beginning, there was creation. There was one Creator who spoke matter, space, and time into existence. When I gaze upon nature all I recognize are divine fingerprints of how God has structured creation in its ordered complexity. We as humans are the pinnacle of God’s creation made in his image and the object of his great salvation. When I paint, I am mirroring my creator. My paintings embody a profound sense of empowerment, spiritual energy, and divine presence communicated through artistic refinement. I am offering a curated selection of masterpieces that speak to the soul for your dwelling spaces. Each piece within my collection is meticulously curated to reflect unparalleled quality and timeless elegance.
